What would you do if you were the Minister of Education in Turkey?
IMAGINE: you are the new minister of education… What would be the first thing you would change, add or remove? Spend tax payers’ money on building more schools, purchase new equipments for teaching.. Would you more focus on all rounded student, reduce the number of exams for each student should take OR keep them as they are even go ahead and increase because you think there are not enough.. What would you do when it comes to university placement?

I'd spend money on the existing buildings. Are they ready for an earth quake? They should. I'd try to build a system that gives more importance to Industrial high schools. Electrician Barber Tailor Gardener Kindergarden teacher Language skills Biomedical Carpenter Secreterial skills Computer skills These exist but are not good enough. You have to get private courses to learn extra things. If they were good enough , many people would stop trying to fantasize about university education. Many people get education that's good for nothing.

I would close at least half of İmam Hatip schools, reopen Halkevleri in rural areas. And, I agree with Amada on industrial high schools.

Provide leadership, guidance and resources to help schools meet the educational needs of all students. Provide resources available for educating homeless children. Provide resources available for educating children with special needs. Ensure a quality public education for all children in economically disadvantaged communities so that high school graduation rates increase and graduates are prepared to enter and be successful in college. Encourage to strengthen the relationship between families, schools, and local communities.

Main thing would be to push for increased funds for education, this would really help the future of Turkey. Another thing would be to make the OSS available couple of times a year where everyone in their third and fourth year of highschool is able to take it as many times as they want. Only the beginning of what I would do...

Above answerers have given good answers. I know that the Ministry of Education doesn't have the authority to increase the budget it gets, so I'd rather be the Prime Minister. :) I would increase the budget ministeries of education and healthcare get. I would start an effective system to detect and wipe out corruption (I have to make sure the money is well spent). Then I would pick one of the above answerers as the Minister of Education. :) Running a place, any place, is team work. We would work together to pull public administration together.

Well, I can only answer from what I know at present because both my children go to state schools in Turkey. I would first of all, say that more funds are badly needed for school equipment. So many state schools are run down and in bad condition. More computers are needed, better classroom equipment is needed. State schools reply on the pupils' parents to fund for needed equipment, simply because the funds from the government is just not enough. We have to provide everything from paper, books, computer money, stationary, electric bills - everything! The government looks after the civil service men very well, but totally lack sympathy when it comes to governemnt run schools. There you go, there's my rant!

This question is mine lol 0- NO PRIVATE SCHOOLS! NO MONEY FOR SCHOOLS (üniversite harçları and kayıt parası)! EQUAL EDUCATION RIGHT TO EVERYONE! 1- NO TO YÖK! FREE UNIVERSITIES! 2- Today the foundation who gets the most money from the government is Diyanet İşleri even it's not needed. So I would use their money to build new schools. My priority would be primary and high schools. 3- I would make deterrent sanctions for the parents who don't send their daughters to the school (both primary and high school). This can be money or jail punishment. In the future the education level would increase and I wouldn't need those punishments (I hate giving punishment). 4- I would make teaching in Anatolia (especially in the East) essential. I would give extra money to the teachers who stay there. 5- I would change the school books (sorry but I would only use them as toilet paper). No memorizing in the lessons. 6- Every school must have science and computer laboratories. Also library is needed. 7- There must be exams in the schools to test the students but the questions shouldn't ask must-memorized things. 8- Students must read at least 4 books in a month. 9- I would open Köy Enstitüleri instead of Meslek Liseleri. And I would make it common in the villages. 10- I would change the school subjects. For at least 7 years, students learn (or should I say "memorize"?) the same things. I would add "recent history of Turkey" and "world history" in history lessons. 11- University rectors must be chosen by the students. Students must have an important place on decisions of university. 12- Government must provide all the school equipments to poor students. 13- Learning reading-writing would be essential for all people. I would give free courses for adults who need it. 14- No SBS and ÖSS. My idea is: Different exams will be prepared by the government for all levels. For example the best high schools of Turkey will choose the students with a different exam than middle-leveled high schools. And if a student wants to go to a good high school, he must be good at school lessons. My aim is to make school's importance increase. Because I hate dersanes. Not every student can go there. They are the symbols of capitalism in education.
