As a foreigner i am going to rent a student house for 6 months in Lisbon, Portugal. Have you any suggestions?
I am a university student in Turkey. Next year 2008 january i will go to ISCTE/ Lisbon by Erasmus program. Through the whole period i stay in Lisbon and in ISCTE they say that there is no dormitories. But i was wondering, if I start living in an apartment on my own, can I able to meet Portugese people and interact multi-culturally more? Can I enjoy Lisbon just like my own country with my friends?

Hi!! or Merhaba! Well About the Dorms I would double check because it's probable they do have dorms..or shared with other universities. As for the School it's great, and for Lisbon xek my blog for info on things to do and links!! http://experienceportugal.blogspot.com/ As for accommodation...ask the school's Student Association for help because they have offers of apartments for rent and usually with other students!

Yes, you can meet Portuguese people.. Just be sure to try to talk to people in your program, or go out sometimes, just to meet people.. Don't be too cooked up. The idea is to meet people the first few days/weeks youre there, then you have friends. We're very friendly, not afraid to talk:)

Student visa in turkey! Help!?

Student visa in turkey! Help!?
Hey everyone, so I was studying in Egypt when the revolution started. Unfortunately, my school forced me to leave and sent me to study in Istanbul, Turkey. I have an acceptance letter from a University here, but I need a student visa. They wont let me to continue to study on tourist visas. They are saying I need to go back to the states to apply for one, as you can imagine that is expensive and very inconvenient for a student. My question is how can I obtain a student visa in Turkey, or in a near by country!? Please help!

Yes you will find people who speak English at school there is a large foreign population the and there kids are going to school as well. In my sons class there are 5 English speaking kids out of a total of 18 kids in his class. You will be okay but learn Turkish and don't only rely on English speaking people

Don't worry, there are all international students in Alanya, so you won't have any problem with the language as your classmates will probably consist of Russians, Englishs and other people around the world. For better contact, you should at least understand Turkish. Welcome to Turkey! I wish I could live in Alanya, it is like being in summer holiday every single day :)

If you are to go to a state school, then you will have a hard time with your connection to turkish students as they begin learning english in the fourth grade. However, if your parents send you to a private school, then most of the students would know english because probably in alanya there will be many foreigners and the other turkish students begin learning english in the first grade (also, the teachers would be more helpful).

There are lots of people who speak proper English in Turkey but comparing to other problems, it is nothing. For example, i don't know where you are from but if you are religious, you should know that you wont probably find your church in Turkey. However; if you're ok with going any church...

You'll have to take TOEFL to prove your English and SAT to prove your ability in Maths and Science. American Universities give lots of importance to your references. So, you should gather lots of references from your teachers and so on. Why don't you write to Universities you are interested in, and they'll write you back. Robert College in Istanbul helps to its students apply to U.S.., phone them and ask for an appointment for advice. The worst they can do is to reject you.
