The Puritans came to America on a ship called Mayflower,and after their first harvest gave thanks to god. I guess they ate Turkey because there were plenty of them in the wild in those days.

Pilgrims weren't actually Puritans (read this: http://www.puritansermons.com/banner/logan1.htm), but the Pilgrims came to North American on the Mayflower.
