Koç University is one of the better universities in Turkey, and the language of instruction is English. It is situated in Istanbul, but a bit far away from popular neighborhoods of Istanbul. The distance is but a bus ride long. You will probably need to stay in university housing. I think it will be a very nice experience. Hope you will have a wonderful time in Istanbul. 2009-2010 (Summer-Fall-Spring-Summer) Academic Calendar: http://www.ku.edu.tr/ku/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3676&Itemid=3497 2008-2009 Catalog (MS Word file): http://www.ku.edu.tr/ku/images/REGISTRAR/Catalog08-09.doc Koç Family has been one of the richest families (often the richest) in Turkey since the establishment of Republic in 1920s. Fortunately, just like their rival, the Sabanci Family, they have been nice rich people, not some very manipulative b's you see in many countries

If you decided to study in Turkey I hope you have then learned a little of the language otherwise you are not going to learn too much. Be careful with your own language, make your mouth proud to be able to pronounce your language and do not abbreviate, please respect your words and use capitals where necessary, when you write, so you look as if you are educated! Remember you will represent your country, which is not held in very high esteem, especially in Europe, right now. "Guys", think of another word, try not to be sloppy, speak and dress very correctly. It seems a shame for America that the Scandinavians, and most educated Europeans speak and spell English better (two ts are pronounced and do not equal a 'd' ) than most 'so called educated Americans'. I am the mother of 3 educated children in the States, and it has been hard to stop the expressions, 'you know', 'like' and 'I mean' all the time, and I had to help them with the poor American pronunciation , like the letter at the end of a word, is so often dropped. I like to spend time in Europe and other lands, so I know how imporTanT it is to speak clearly and represent your country. Most US people say the word important as 'impo--un" they ignore the letter T, start brushing it up now. Be very careful how you dress, where you go at night, do not go alone at night. Be very conservative where men/boys are concerned. There are shared taxis in town, never get in when there are two men and no other woman. Use common sense. Be aware of your surroundings at all time. You can always layer your clothes for warmth, that is the least of your attention. You can still have fun. Enjoy.

i'm currently an exchange student (sophomore, highschool) in antalya turkey. i've been here since september. antalya's much nicer than istanbul weatherwise but i was in istanbul for a month from mid september to mid october and the weather was actually really nice, warm and sunny. it can be rainy, but remember that most places in europe will be the same way around this time of year. i absolutely loved istanbul and will be visiting again in a couple of weeks. i'm from north dakota, so obviously it wouldn't be cold for me but i wouldn't worry about the weather. it's much better than say.. germany or something. less gloomy (: i think you should take advantage of the opportunity, it's a beautiful country and culture. i'm so glad i did and i'd do it a thousand times over again. good luck!! i hope you go and have a great time and a great experience!
