How do I best fight the Creationist in my High School?
I'm a 17 year old Junior in an American Department of Defense Dependent School in Turkey. There are some students that want Creationism taught as part of the curriculum and I don't want that to happen. What do I do?

If it's a young earth creationist forget it he is a lost soul

Talk to the head of the school and share your feelings with them. I don't think it's right to teach it in schools either...Well good luck!:)
4 :
Give in and join them. You cant win because you are arguing against truth.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the government of Turkey, and whether or not they embrace the separation of church and state. There might not be anything you can do about it, unlike here in the states.

protest. wear a t-shirt that says "teach me evolution"

The only way to fight creationism (aka ignorance) is with knowledge. They probably will be too stubborn, though, so just talk to an adult that you know is on your side and have them help you.

Its not gonna happen..........Schools dont often teach religion if its a public school. So you dont need to beat up anyone.

I went to a DoD school when I was growing up. I believe they get their curricula centrally, and the agendas are the same for all DoD schools. I could be wrong though, it's been a long time. I don't know what point those kids are trying to make. The Biblical account of creation is just a story. There's really nothing to "teach"....Just real Genesis, and you're all set. Then you can go back to real science, lol.

Throw some dirt at them, and tell them to make you a human being

One thing I want to know is: How would one "teach" creationism in school?

Sounds fair, sounds reasonable. Why not? Never be afraid of these things. You don't HAVE to take the course, you know? Then Creationists could learn science from a view they understand. This is intolerant.

First, find out if there is a problem. Ask a school administrator if there is a proposal on the table to teach creationism and, if so, will it be considered. If the answer to both questions is "yes," you have a problem. Tell your parents and ask them to intervene. You might also get help from the National Center for Science Education or other organizations in the United States.

Study. Ace the test. This is what creationists have to do with evolution. If asked if we believe something different, the class finally takes a turn toward critical thinking instead of the usual insomnia cure.

One of the best defenses against Creationism is the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It goes like this - if you teach one form of Creationism, then you have to teach them all (most Creationists are careful to say "an intelligent creator" rather than "god" so they don't make their agenda too blatant) So become a Pastafarian (member of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism) and demand equal time. The Church or the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a valid religion, and it's creation myth is pretty objectionable to Christians. ((I won't go into too much detail, but it involves pirates, strippers, and a beer volcano). They have done this before - with some success. The Flying Spaghetti Monster has been used to protest all kinds of things. Plus, the religion itself is very cool, being based on logic, kindness, and common sense. Below is the link to the FSM site. Check it out to see how the FSM has been used to fight dogma andoppressionn for years. http://www.venganza.org RAmen
