Hospital Internship in Turkey?
I'm a medical student. We have been given the option of doing a 1 month internship in another country. I was thinking of doing my internship in Turkey but I am not so sure about it because I don't know anything about the turkish health system and none of the other students has ever done an internship in Turkey... Do you recommend it? And what are the best university hospitals in Turkey? (preferably in Istanbul) Trolls! Get a life! @blaze: most public hospitals here suck too! People prefer private hospitals. @iph: I'm not a dr yet & I actually hate it when my friends & relatives call me dr. Never mind my username :P Anw, this internship will not be graded so it doesn't matter where I do it. The best option would be to do it here in Lebanon but I want to travel :P That's why I prefer Istanbul over Ankara :) I could go to France but I'll have plenty of chances of going there in the coming few years & the faculty will cover the expenses. What's the best faculty in Istanbul? Teaching language is english, right? Maybe it would be better if I choose to do my internship in a private hospital because the patients there are more likely to know english. And yes the best doctors are from third world countries. Pakistani & indian doctors are the best. Lebanese doctors have a good reputation in USA and France & isn't Dr. Mehmet Oz turkish? He's pretty famous in USA! I do allow private messaging btw.

Well i can't lie, the health system in Turkey sucks bad (though there have been many improvements in the past years). the university hospitals are overcrowded and due to the high number of patients probably there are a lot of different cases. maybe it could be a great opportunity to learn? it wouldn't teach much if you were at a perfect hospital in a perfect system right? :) chaotic conditions teach well! But be reminded that language could cause a barrier especially around the patients in university hospitals. Best university hospitals in Turkey are: in Istanbul: Istanbul University CerrahpaÅŸa Faculty of Medicine (one of the best two)http://www.ctf.istanbul.edu.tr/ Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine http://www.itf.istanbul.edu.tr/ in Ankara: Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (one of the best two) http://www.tip.hacettepe.edu.tr/english/index.php

LOL blaze actually besides the crowds in public hospitals turkish health care system is considered quite efficient :D if you see american health care... btw you said right good doctors come out from developing countries, cause facilities are enough and lacking at the same time :D anyway i'm a med student too i thought you were already a doctor :D first you should choose a university hospital (decide weather public or private), the best is hacettepe (both faculty and hospital is the best) university hospital in ankara. then you should open the web pages and find the instructor responsible for exchange/erasmus students and email him/her. hacettepe university &hospital is public but clearly the best in turkey, both in medical practice, teachers, students and hospital and it has quite sufficient medical equipment. private universities and hospitals are good in one way, they have the best and latest medical equipment, enough facilities, and teachers have enough time for the students. private schools send their students to big public hospitals for certain internships btw, if they dont have enough patients. there are exchange and erasmus students in my school's hospital, and i dont know how they manage their language problem, probably they have a helper student/somebody as a translator. i think you should ask for the schedule of the school you want to come, and show it to your dean/administration and if they agree, the schools will send papers to each other. that's what they told us about doing internship in another country. we can go for 1-2 month too, duration depends on the internship. i think your major decision should be about the city which you say istanbul, and public/private hospital. if you cant get enough help, you may get in touch with a student in international medical students organizations of their school. you can find them on facebook. i can help about my school also (it's in istanbul) i can write in a private mail, cause there is a troll waiting for new trolling material. if i were you, i would only go to ankara for hacettepe, but istanbul has both best public and private schools after hacettepe. and ankara is boring :D http://www.tip.hacettepe.edu.tr/ public schools http://www.istanbul.edu.tr/itf/ http://tip.marmara.edu.tr/ http://www.ctf.edu.tr/ private http://www.acibadem.edu.tr/?pid=232 http://www.yeditepe.edu.tr/faculties/medicine http://www.yeditepe.edu.tr/dinamik/tekfakulte.dot?dipId=tip-fakultesi http://tip.maltepe.edu.tr/ http://www.istanbulbilim.edu.tr/index.php?lan=tr

As far as I know (if the laws didn't change) foreigners can't practise medicine in Turkey. According to Turkish laws you're not allowed to do your internship in Turkey unless you're a Turkish citizen or unless you study medicine in a Turkish university.
