How would I go about becoming an exchange student?
Right now I'm in my junior year in high school and I want to become an exchange student in Japan. Honestly, I don't know how to go about all of this. What should I look up? Are there any websites I should go to? Can I graduate here then after my senior year become an exchange student? [An exchange student from Turkey said she did that.] Counting I get accepted and all, is there anything specific I should know? And finally, has anyone else become an exchange student in Japan and like to give me a few tips? Please and thank you! Of course, of course. Sorry about that. I live in the US and probably plan to go sometime next year, if possible. If I do end up going, I'd like to try and stay for a year or so. Right now, I only know a few words, and am no where near speaking it fluently. Though, I could always take a few classes to at least learn the basics. As for studying, I'd probably just like to stay in a general acedemic program.

What is your country of citizenship? When do you plan to go, and for how long? What is your proficiency-level in the Japanese language? Is there a particular aspect of the culture you would like to study, or do you just want to enroll in a general academic program? It will be easier for us to provide you with helpful information if you provide specifics. There's no point in listing 10 different sites for Canadian-Japanese exchanges if you live in New Zealand, you know?

No, you can't become a high school exchange student after you graduate.

It is EXTREMELY tricky to be an exchange student as an American. Yes, you can do it, but your high school likely won't accept the credits, and a lot of organizations will not accept US students who have graduated. Some programs will require you are fluent in the language, which I see you are not. However! Contact the major organizations and see what they say, and then talk to your school. Your better bet may be finding a university that offers a Japanese study program, and do it in college. Try: http://www.ciee.org http://www.afs.org http://www.yfu.org

Universities in the U.S.A. far more expensive than the ones in Turkey; if you're planning to spend two semesters in a state university like Bogazici. Stay away from private universities in Turkey because they're really expensive... some of them, like the one called Sabanci University, are as expensive as 20,000 USD or so... so I would recommend you to apply national universities. I guess you will be paying a small fee... I would also recommend you to check every schools website; since they all have different admission procedures and educational fees. Good luck in Turkey. Edited: With this in mind, checking the school's language requirements will be another important step in your eliminating process. Moreover, some classes that you're looking forward to register and study may not be offered in the institution that you're willing to study. So... I would recommend you to have a comprehensive talk with your advisor; I'm assuming your school has a study abroad office... so maybe instead of paying fees as high as $20000 for private schools, u will pay the same education fee that you pay per semester in the U.S.A... I mean u pay the amount to your school, and you pay nothing to the school in Turkey.. there are many procedures that not only depends on the school that you are willing to study in Turkey but also on the school that you're studying in the U.S.A. Again Good luck in Turkey; a beautiful country!

Boğaziçi University is one of the best (maybe best) universities in social sciences. it also has a very nice spot near Bosphorus and life is really cool in there. if you want to have fun and live the good side of Istanbul, you should definitely go there. however, if you are interested in academic career in engineering or science, Bogaziçi University is not a good choice. you must think of METU (in Ankara), Sabancı (in Istanbul), Bilkent (in Ankara) if you are interested in Art and visual art, think of Bilgi University and for architecture, think of Mimar Sinan University. (both in Istanbul) Turkey is not expensive compared to US. you wont have problem.

'per vist/use' eating at restaurants will cost you about 800-1500 yen. fast food restaurants cost about 500 yen in tokyo a typical one way ticket on the JR costs about 500 yen, but it depends how far you are going. a club was about 1000 to 2000 yen. big cans of beer at a 7-11/lawsons store were about 300 yen. remember it's legal to drink on the streets/train. cigarettes costs 300 yen. remember there is no tipping and tax is included in the price.
2 :
airfare: $1500 hotel: $100 per night, $1000 in total food and transportation: It depends on your plan. But you need $100-150 per day. I'll put $1250 in total So you need $3750 in total.

Making personalized T-shirts for our girlie week away to Turkey, is my idea geeky?
Making personalized T-shirts for our girlie week away to Turkey, is my idea geeky?
6 of us are going away to Turkey for a week and we're not into partying and drinking like most 20 year olds. We're all students so instead of having nicknames on the back of our T-Shirts we're going to have what we study, so the back of the shirts will say "Physio" "Medic" "Artist" etc except for one girl who's obsessed with guys so her shirt will say "Stalker" Is this a really geeky dumb idea? Just wanted peoples opinions before I made them! Thanks!
